Biography

Karolee completed her bachelor’s degree at Brigham Young University and then went on to completea Master of Social Work degree from Colorado State University. During school, much of herresearch focused on the animal-human bond and the uses of animal-assisted therapy in varioushuman service areas. Karolee’s experience with using companion animal and equine assisted therapyis extensive and she is often accompanied in sessions by her own therapy dog “Jessi.”Karolee has over 5 years of experience working with teenage girls in residential and outpatienttreatment. She has experience helping to heal a variety of issues for these girls and their familiesincluding eating disorders, depression, anxiety, self-harm, grief/loss, trauma, substance abuse, andparent/child relational issues. She has a love for experiential approaches and frequently uses equinetherapy, sand play therapy, music, or art techniques with clients. She also has a special interest in theidea of personal empowerment and currently runs an equine-assisted women’s empowerment groupin her private practice.Outside of work, Karolee enjoys hiking, working with horses, and sheep herding with her bordercollies. She also spends quite a bit of time vacuuming up pet hair and cleaning pens.
